Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon as a precautionary measure after a minor fall at her home. She had recently returned home from a three-month absence due to complications from shingles, and her office reported that all scans were clear. Her spokesperson told NBC News that she is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.

New Hampshire Nurse and Child Released After Kidnapping in Haiti

A New Hampshire nurse and her child were kidnapped in Haiti last month, but have since been released according to El Roi Haiti, the Christian ministry the woman was working for. The kidnapping of Dorsainvil and her child has raised concerns about the safety of aid workers in Haiti, with many victims being released after a ransom is paid. It is unclear if a ransom was paid in this case.

Ohioans Reject Republican Effort to Block Abortion Rights at the Ballot Box

Ohioans have overwhelmingly voted against a ballot measure that would have made it more difficult to amend the state constitution, a move by Republicans to try and block efforts to legalize abortion at the ballot box. Opponents of Issue 1 were winning with most of the votes tallied, and President Joe Biden released a statement praising the result. A proposal to codify abortion rights in the state constitution has already made the November ballot and needs only a simple majority to pass, making this a major win for Democrats and a blow to Republicans.

Tragic Loss of Texas Man, James Bernard Hendricks, in Arches National Park

James Bernard Hendricks, 66, of Austin, Texas, was found dead in Arches National Park in Utah on August 1, believed to have died from heatstroke while on a trip to spread his father's ashes. Rangers found his vehicle at a trailhead parking lot after he was reported overdue, and his sisters believe he became disoriented from a combination of heat, dehydration and high altitude. Hendricks had documented his journey on social media prior to his death, and his family is asking for privacy during this difficult time.

Air Force Discovers Unsafe Levels of Carcinogen at Two Missile Launch Facilities

The Air Force has discovered unsafe levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at two underground launch control centers at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. To address the issue, they are removing and replacing contaminated materials, providing medical screenings and health monitoring for personnel, and continuing to sample other launch facilities across the country.

Tornado Watch in D.C. Area Brings Destructive Winds, Large Hail, and Tornadoes, Causing Disruption to Travel and Daily Life

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the greater D.C. area on Monday, warning of dangerous hurricane-force winds, large hail, and tornadoes. At least two people died as a result of the storms, with thousands of flights canceled and more than 1.1 million homes and businesses losing power. The Weather Service urged people to take cover if they were in the path of the storms, and is continuing to monitor the situation.

“Westland Fire Department’s Labrador Retriever Causes 4-Year-Old Girl to be Struck and Run Over by Golf Cart

On Friday, a 4-year-old girl in Michigan was struck and run over by a golf cart after a Labrador retriever stepped on the gas pedal. Fortunately, the girl had no obvious injuries and was back to playing shortly after the incident. The incident has raised questions about the safety of golf carts, and the Westland Fire Department is reviewing the incident to ensure it does not happen again.
