British wrestler Benjamin Satterley, known as Pac, dies at 40

Benjamin Satterley, the British professional wrestler known as Pac, has died at 40, All Elite Wrestling said. He had competed at the company’s All Out event in Chicago on Saturday. AEW announced his death late Sunday, according to CBS News. No cause of death has been provided.

AEW said it was “saddened to announce the passing” of Satterley, a native of Newcastle upon Tyne who signed with the company in 2019. “Our condolences go out to Satterley’s family, friends and fans,” the company wrote on social media.

Satterley began wrestling in 2004 and went on to perform for organizations around the world. AEW credited his innovative high-flying moves and in-ring ability with captivating fans. He held multiple championships with the company, which said he had competed in “some of the most memorable matches in AEW history.” CBS News reported that he lost to Andrade El Ídolo in the AEW National Championship in Chicago on Saturday.

Before joining AEW, Satterley performed for World Wrestling Entertainment, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Mexico’s Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, the BBC reported. He wrestled under the name Adrian Neville from 2012 to 2018, according to CBS News, and was also known as “The Man That Gravity Forgot.”

CBS News reported that Satterley began training at 18 after developing an interest in wrestling through an aunt who was a WWF fan, citing his booking agency, MN2S. The outlet reported that he became the inaugural AEW International Champion and a two-time AEW World Trios Champion.

Fellow wrestlers paid tribute to Satterley’s skill and character. “The greatest export from our country. Also the greatest human being,” British wrestler Will Ospreay wrote on X. “Honored to have shared the ring with you so many times. You truly are such a hero to myself and many others.”

WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman called Satterley’s death a “truly terrible loss” and described him as a “tremendous talent and even finer human being.” AEW President Tony Khan said Satterley “defined excellence” as a husband and friend, as well as through his wrestling knowledge, skill and “unprecedented athleticism.”

“I am in shock. This is heartbreaking,” AEW wrestler Evil Uno said. “We have lost another great person, a great soul, a true professional.” Fellow wrestler Kevin Owens wrote, “The best lad… We love you,” alongside photos of himself with Satterley, CBS News reported.

Tom Campbell of the Newcastle-based Cultaholic Wrestling YouTube channel called Satterley a North East legend. “He was a Geordie lad that took on the entire wrestling world and has left a mark that will not be forgotten,” he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
