NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is set to undergo hip surgery after he fell during a concert in Los Angeles on Friday night.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the former Los Angeles Laker, was taken to a hospital after he had an accidental fall and broke his hip, according to his longtime business partner, Deborah Morales. Paramedics rushed the 7-foot-2, 76-year-old basketball legend to the hospital, as reported by TMZ.

Morales thanked the “amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now.” She also expressed her appreciation for the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Abdul-Jabbar on site.

This medical emergency comes three years after Abdul-Jabbar revealed he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and beaten it, and was battling chronic myeloid leukemia. He retired from the sport in 1989 at the age of 42 with a multitude of records and accolades. Abdul-Jabbar stands second on the all-time NBA scoring list, with 38,387 points scored.

It is not known what concert he was attending, or where. The public wishes Abdul-Jabbar a speedy recovery.
