President Biden and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to Meet at the White House to Discuss US Aid Package for Ukraine

On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with President Joe Biden at the White House. This visit comes as the United States is pushing for the approval of an aid package for Ukraine, which has been stalled on Capitol Hill due to disagreements over immigration policies.

John Kirby, National Security Council spokesperson, stated that the meeting is “a chance for the president to get an update from President Zelenskyy about how things are going on the battlefront, but also to make it very clear to President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people that we’re going to continue to support them, particularly at this very difficult time.”

The Ukrainian president is also expected to speak with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, where there is growing Republican skepticism about providing more financial and military support for Ukraine in its war against Russia. Senator Chris Coons, D-Del., a close ally of Biden, expressed his frustration with the stalemate, saying “It is maddening. A very bad message to the world, to the Ukrainian people.”

The war with Russia has been ongoing for three years, and the United States has been providing financial and military support to Ukraine during this time. This visit to the White House is an opportunity for President Zelenskyy to update President Biden on the situation in Ukraine and to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the country.
