Philadelphia police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing at Macy’s in Center City on Monday.

Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford said the incident began around 10:45 a.m. when a man allegedly attempted to steal multiple hats from the store. The security guards were able to recover the hats and the suspect left the store without incident.

However, about 10 minutes later, the suspect returned and began stabbing one of the guards. The guard was killed and another was badly wounded.

The suspect was arrested by SEPTA police on a train near the 8th Street station. He is being held at the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.
