On Thanksgiving morning, a devastating fire swept through two mobile homes in Athens County, Ohio, leaving five people dead.

Richland Area volunteer firefighters were called to the scene on Rainbow Lake Road south of Athens at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they found two mobile homes ablaze and an outbuilding damaged. Chief Dale Sinclair reported that one of the homes had a collapsed roof and that people were possibly trapped inside.

Tragically, five people, including two children, were found dead inside the mobile home. One person was able to escape the fire and was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, according to Ohio Department of Commerce spokesperson Brandon Klein. Klein also said that the identity of the survivor has not been released.

The Ohio Department of Commerce is currently investigating the incident. Our thoughts are with the families of those affected by this tragedy.
