A 6-year-old boy in Texas has died on Tuesday after spending two months fighting for his life on a hospital ventilator following an attack by his neighbor in September.

According to a statement by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Jeremy Diaz was allegedly attacked by his neighbor, Daniel Logan, 39, on Sept. 11 after Logan broke into the home armed with a baseball bat. Police arrived at the home just after 5 a.m. in response to the disturbance, and transported Diaz and Logan to the hospital.

In a grim update on GoFundMe, Arturo Diaz, the father of Jeremy Diaz, said he was unable to resuscitate his son after he found him pale, with no heartbeat and no motion in his eyes. “He fought for over 60 days and was improving, but at the end, the odds seemed against him and he gave up the ghost,” the father said. “Then his heart stopped.”

The GoFundMe page was set up to help cover the costs of Jeremy’s medical care and funeral expenses. As of Tuesday, the page had raised over $50,000.

Logan has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Williamson County Jail on a $1 million bond. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
