According to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, Cure had spent over a decade behind bars before his exoneration. Following his release, Cure was working in security, had hopes to go to college and work in broadcast radio production, and was buying his first home.

Miller said, “I can only imagine what it’s like to know your son is innocent and watch him be sentenced to life in prison, to be exonerated and … then be told that once he’s been freed, he’s been shot dead.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the shooting, and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave. No further information has been released at this time.
