Hamas Takes Over 100 Hostages, Including Americans, in Surprise Terror Attack on Israel

Israeli officials have reported that a militant group has taken more than 100 hostages, including women, children and some Americans, following a surprise terror attack on Saturday. The group, believed to be Hamas, has been launching rockets into Israel, some of which have broken through the nation’s Iron Dome air defense system. Hamas has stated that it will not negotiate for the release of hostages while Gaza is under siege.

In response to the attack, President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke again this morning. White House officials are expected to give a readout of their conversation to reporters later today.

The Israel-Hamas war has continued to claim the lives of thousands early Wednesday as Israel conducted relentless airstrikes in the Gaza Strip and bombarded the Palestinian territory. NBC News’ Raf Sanchez and his crew were told to take cover due to a red alert warning.

The war has had a devastating effect on the people of Gaza, with many buildings destroyed and lives lost. One man, Eilon, spoke of his daughter who was killed in the attack, saying “She was such a special girl. I feel like everybody has a part in this world and her part was spreading kindness.”

The situation in Israel and Gaza remains tense, with no end in sight to the conflict. The international community is calling for an immediate ceasefire and for the release of the hostages.
