A convicted murderer who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison two weeks ago was captured this week after a daring manhunt. Danelo Cavalcante, 34, was apprehended in Pennsylvania on Wednesday and has since confessed to authorities his plans to carjack someone and flee the country.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark told NBC News that Cavalcante intended to travel to Canada, and told officers after his arrest that he had survived on the lam by eating watermelon from a farm and burying himself beneath leaves and brush to avoid detection.

Cavalcante was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her two young children and had escaped from Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township on August 31. He was found to have a razor blade in his backpack when he was captured.

The two-week manhunt for Cavalcante involved multiple law enforcement agencies and hundreds of officers. After his capture, Cavalcante was taken back into custody and is now facing additional charges related to his escape.
