Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell is receiving hospice care at home, the band’s manager Robert Hayes confirmed to CBS News on Sunday. Harwell is being cared for by his fiancée.

Harwell was the lead singer of the band Smash Mouth, known for hits such as “All Star” and “Walkin’ on the Sun”. He retired in 2021 after being with the band for many years.

“To my bandmates, it’s been an honor performing with you all these years and I can’t think of anyone else I would have rather gone on this wild journey with,” Harwell wrote upon his retirement.

Hayes said he hoped fans would respect the singer and his family’s privacy “during this difficult time.” Zach Goode has taken over as the band’s frontman since Harwell’s retirement.

“Steve’s iconic voice is one of the most recognizable voices from his generation,” Hayes said. “Although Steve is here with us still, sadly it will only be for a short time.”
