A former nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England has been found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others. Lucy Letby, 33, was charged with murder in the deaths of five baby boys and two girls, and the attempted murder of five boys and five girls, between 2015 and 2016.

The prosecution alleged that Letby had deliberately harmed the newborn infants in various ways, including by injecting air into their bloodstreams and administering air or milk into their stomachs via nasogastric tubes.

The jury at the Liverpool Crown Court found Letby guilty of seven counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder. The judge, Mr. Justice Davis, said that Letby had “caused the deaths of seven babies and attempted to cause the deaths of six other babies”.

Letby had denied all the charges against her, claiming that the deaths and attempted deaths of the babies were due to natural causes. However, the prosecution argued that the deaths were “not natural” and that Letby had “deliberately interfered” with the babies.

The judge said that Letby’s actions had caused “unimaginable grief” to the families of the victims. He said that he would sentence Letby at a later date.
