A Texas woman has been awarded $1.2 billion after her ex-boyfriend allegedly shared intimate material of her online and in emails to her family, friends and colleagues.

The woman, referred to as “D.L.” or “Jane Doe” in court documents, was the victim of what is known as “revenge porn” after her relationship with Marques Jamal Jackson started to fall apart in 2020. Jackson allegedly shared the material on multiple social media sites, in a publicly accessible Dropbox folder, and on an impersonation page of a porn website.

Jackson also hacked into D.L.’s mother’s security system, her phone, email, social media and bank accounts, and even her company’s security system. He reportedly told her she would “spend the rest of your life trying and failing to wipe yourself off the internet.”

Attorneys for D.L. described Jackson’s actions as “delusional and paranoid” fueled by jealousy. After 30 minutes of deliberation on Aug. 9, a jury in Harris County District Court unanimously voted to award the woman the funds.

The case serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of revenge porn and the importance of protecting one’s privacy online. It also highlights the need for victims of revenge porn to seek legal recourse.
