Ron DeSantis Makes Major Shake-Up in Presidential Campaign Leadership, Replacing Campaign Manager and Adding Deputy Campaign Manager

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made a major shake-up in his presidential campaign leadership, replacing campaign manager Generra Peck with his longtime chief of staff James Uthmeier. The move comes as DeSantis continues to lag behind former President Donald Trump in early state polls.

David Polyansky, who was the senior adviser to the pro-DeSantis super PAC “Never Back Down,” will also become a deputy campaign manager. The DeSantis spokesperson confirmed the move and said that it was a “realignment rather than a reset” because both Uthmeier and Polyansky were already senior advisers.

In an effort to cut costs, DeSantis has already laid off 40% of his initial campaign staff. Uthmeier and Polyansky will be working closely with Generra Peck and the rest of the team to put the governor in the best possible position to win the primary and defeat Joe Biden.

Uthmeier has been one of DeSantis’ top advisors for years and has been involved in many of the governor’s major decisions. He has been a key figure in DeSantis’ political career since his election in 2018.

The shake-up in DeSantis’ campaign leadership is the latest move in a reset that is now almost a month in the making. It remains to be seen if the move will be enough to help DeSantis gain ground in the polls and ultimately win the Republican nomination.
