A Florida mother has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and abuse of a dead human body in the death of her newborn child.

Arya Singh, 30, was arrested in December 2020, more than four years after the infant, who was known as “Baby June” by investigators, was found in Boynton Beach Inlet in Palm Beach County on June 1, 2018.

Singh pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter of a child and abuse of a dead human body during a Palm Beach County court hearing. DNA testing had linked the child to a relative, officials said.

At the hearing, Singh said little other than yes or no when the judge asked her questions.

The State Attorney’s Office for the 15th Judicial Circuit said Singh was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty.

The case of “Baby June” has been a difficult one for the community, and the sentencing of Singh brings some closure to the tragedy.
