After nearly four decades on the run, a man wanted in connection with the 1984 killing of a Florida woman has been arrested in California.

Donald Michael Santini was taken into custody in San Diego County on Wednesday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives from the sheriff’s office are currently traveling to San Diego to interview Santini, who is being held in jail.

The arrest warrant was issued in June 1984, linking Santini to the strangling death of 33-year-old Cynthia Ruth Wood of Bradenton, located south of Tampa. Wood’s body was found in a drainage ditch about five days after she went missing on June 6 of that year.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has not released any further details about the case or Santini’s arrest. It is unclear if Santini has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
