Lindsey Graham’s Remarks on U.S. Military Assistance to Ukraine Spark Controversy and Debate

On Friday, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine. Following the meeting, Zelenskyy’s office released an edited video of the conversation, in which Graham noted that “the Russians are dying” and described U.S. military assistance to the country as “the best money we’ve ever spent.”

The edited video caused outrage in Russia, prompting the country’s Interior Ministry to issue an arrest warrant for Graham on Monday. Zelenskyy’s office later released the full video of Graham’s remarks, which showed that the shorter version had been edited.

The full video revealed that Graham’s comments were made in different parts of the conversation. Graham’s remarks were in reference to the ongoing fighting between Ukraine and Russia-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country.

The U.S. has provided Ukraine with military assistance since 2014, when Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula. Since then, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with more than $1.5 billion in security assistance.

Graham’s comments have sparked a debate over the U.S.’s role in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. While some have praised the U.S. for providing military assistance to Ukraine, others have argued that the U.S. should not be involved in the conflict.
