A 2-year-old Florida girl died after being left in a hot car overnight, authorities said Wednesday. The girl’s parents, Kathreen Adams, 23, and Christopher McLean, 32, were arrested and charged with child neglect, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began when a frantic woman called 911 around 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday, but dispatchers were unable to understand any information from the distraught caller. Deputies responded to a home in the Florida Panhandle community of Prosperity and were met by someone carrying the unresponsive child.

The child was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Adams and McLean were arrested and taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail. They are being held without bond and are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. No further information has been released at this time.
