A 15-year-old student at Bostrom High School in Phoenix, Arizona was arrested on Friday after allegedly bringing an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and ammunition to school.

According to a news release from the Phoenix Police Department, the student was arrested in the main office of the school around 1 p.m. after school officials were notified of the possible gun on campus. Donna Rossi, director of communications for the Phoenix police, told NBC News that the student was facing “serious felony charges”.

The school was placed under lockdown as soon as the officials were alerted, and police were called to the scene. The student was identified as a 15-year-old male, and upon his arrest, authorities allegedly found more ammunition in his backpack and lunch box.

The AR-15 semi-automatic rifle is the weapon behind a dozen of the 21 deadliest mass shootings in the U.S. since 2006. The Phoenix Police Department is currently investigating the incident and has not released any further information.
