The Pentagon is investigating the possible leak of classified U.S. documents related to Ukraine’s war effort and military strength, a Defense Department spokesperson said. The documents, which were posted in recent days as photos on Twitter and Telegram, outline Ukraine’s military strength, the state of the conflict, casualty figures and the burn rate for HIMARS long-range rocket systems.

“We are aware of the reports of social media posts, and the Department is reviewing the matter,” Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in an email.

The additional leaked documents that open-source intelligence researchers surfaced Friday appear to have been posted online in the past few weeks. Both the Pentagon and US Department of Justice are investigating the leaks of a trove of apparent US intelligence documents.

The Justice Department has also started its own probe, said a spokesperson. “We have been in communication with the Department of Defense related to this matter and have begun an investigation,” the spokesperson added.

The Pentagon said Thursday it was looking into the matter as reports emerged. The documents cover a range of topics from US support for Ukraine to information about key US allies, widening the fallout from an already alarming leak.
