San Francisco was shocked Tuesday morning when tech executive Bob Lee was fatally stabbed in the city’s Rincon Hill neighborhood.

Lee, 43, was the founder of Cash App and former chief technology officer of Square, and was currently serving as the chief product officer of San Francisco-based cryptocurrency startup MobileCoin.

At around 2:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing and found Lee with apparent stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The city’s medical examiner’s office hadn’t yet identified the victim as of Tuesday evening, but friends of Lee told CBS Bay Area he was the victim.

MobileCoin issued a statement saying Lee had died, Bloomberg reports. The San Francisco Police Department is currently investigating the incident and no suspects have been identified.

Lee’s death has been met with shock and sadness from the tech community. He was a well-known and respected figure in the industry, and his death is a great loss.
