A housekeeper for the Murdaugh family testified in the double-murder trial of Alex Murdaugh on Friday, revealing that Maggie Murdaugh was worried about a lawsuit demanding $30 million from her family in the days before her death.

Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson, a friend of the Murdaugh family and their housekeeper for over a decade, said Maggie was concerned about the amount of money being requested in the lawsuit and was crying, saying “We don’t have that kind of money.” She also said that Maggie felt her husband wasn’t being entirely honest with her about the lawsuit.

The day before Maggie and her youngest son Paul were found fatally shot on the grounds of their South Carolina estate, Turrubiate-Simpson said Maggie pulled her into a room and shut the door. She said Maggie was worried about the lawsuit and the amount of money they were being asked for.

Turrubiate-Simpson said she never knew Alex and Margaret Murdaugh to argue, only “some minor disagreements.” She said Maggie was concerned that Alex wasn’t being truthful to her about the lawsuit.

The double-murder trial of Alex Murdaugh is ongoing, and Turrubiate-Simpson’s testimony is expected to continue. It remains to be seen what other evidence will be revealed in the trial.
