Authorities in southwestern Oregon are warning that a man suspected of kidnapping and severely beating a woman may now be using dating apps to evade capture or find potential new victims.

Benjamin Obadiah Foster, 36, is the subject of an intensive, round-the-clock search by police after a woman was found unconscious, bound and near death in Grants Pass, Oregon, on Tuesday.

The investigation has revealed that Foster is actively using online dating applications to contact unsuspecting individuals who may be lured into assisting with the suspect’s escape or potentially as additional victims, according to the Grants Pass Police Department.

On Thursday night, Grants Pass police, sheriff’s deputies, an Oregon State Police SWAT team and federal agents raided a property in the unincorporated community of Wolf Creek, some 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Grants Pass, where they seized evidence related to the investigation.

Foster has a history of violence and was convicted in Nevada in 2018 of holding another woman captive and torturing her. He is considered to be armed and dangerous and anyone who sees him is urged to call 911 immediately.
