On Wednesday, prosecutors in Northern California filed seven murder charges and one attempted murder charge against 66-year-old Chunli Zhao, the suspect accused of gunning down eight farm workers in the quaint oceanside town of Half Moon Bay on Monday.

The charges included the name of the seventh victim, Jose Romero Perez, and one charge of attempted murder in connection to the incident. San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said that this was the single most victims of homicide in one course of conduct within a short time period in the county’s history.

Previously, the highest number of people murdered at one time in San Mateo County included four people. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office has named six of the seven victims: Zhishen Liu, 73, of San Francisco; Marciano Martinez Jimenez, 50, of Moss Beach; Aixiang Zhang, 74, of San Francisco; Qizhong Cheng, 66, of Half Moon Bay; Jingzhi Lu, 64, of Half Moon Bay; and Yetao Bing, 43, whose hometown was listed as unknown.

The investigation into the mass shooting is ongoing, and no motive has been determined yet. A San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy is blocking the entrance to one of the murder scenes. Zhao is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
