Key takeaways:

  • Former President Donald Trump has withdrawn a second lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James.
  • The lawsuit alleged that Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, misled banks and others about the value of his assets.
  • Trump and James’ office have agreed to a stipulation ending an appeal, and the investigation into the Trump Organization will continue.

Former President Donald Trump has withdrawn a second lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James, just days after dropping a case attempting to block access to his personal trust.

The lawsuit, filed in September, alleged that Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, misled banks and others about the value of his assets, including golf courses and hotels bearing his name. James dubbed the practice “The art of the steal”— a twist on the title of Trump’s book “The Art of the Deal.”

Trump’s lawyers and James’ office agreed Tuesday to a stipulation ending an appeal that had sought to reverse a judge’s decision to dismiss the lawsuit. The agreement was filed in one page, and the appeal was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it could not be revived in the future.

The appeal was in response to a federal judge’s ruling last May that allowed James’ investigation into the Trump Organization to proceed. This is the second time Trump has halted legal action against James after a judge last week fined him and his lawyers nearly $1 million for filing frivolous cases.

The withdrawal of the lawsuit marks the latest development in the ongoing legal battle between Trump and James. It is unclear what the next steps in the case will be, but it appears that the investigation into the Trump Organization will continue.
