Ten people were killed and at least 10 others wounded in a shooting at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dance club following a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday night. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said at a news conference Sunday morning that the suspect has been preliminarily described as an Asian male and remains at large.

Sheriff’s Deputy Trina Meyer said officers responded to the scene in the city of Monterey Park at around 10:30 p.m. and found people “pouring out of the location screaming.” Meyer said the 10 people died at the scene and officers then went into the dance ballroom as firefighters treated the wounded.

Luna said the suspect fled the scene and remains outstanding. He added that officials do not yet have a description of the suspect beyond the preliminary description of an Asian male.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact them. They are also asking anyone who may have video or photos of the incident to contact them.
