Aachen police detained Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Tuesday during an anti-coal protest in Germany. The protest was held near the abandoned village of Lützerath, which is set to be destroyed to make way for the expansion of the Garzweiler coal mine, owned by European energy giant RWE.

Video footage of the protest shows three officers carrying Thunberg, 20, away from the demonstration. Alle Dörfer Bleiben, a group fighting coal mining expansions, confirmed that Thunberg was detained with members of the group and gave her a “special thanks” for participating in the protest.

According to Reuters, police told the group they were “going to use force” to bring protesters to an “identity check,” before asking them to “please cooperate.” Thunberg was reportedly unbothered by the incident.

The incident comes just two days after police removed Thunberg and other demonstrators from the same site. Thunberg has become a prominent figure in the fight against climate change and has been a vocal advocate for environmental protection. Her detention is the latest example of her commitment to the cause.
