Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has endorsed Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) in her bid to run for the U.S. Senate in 2024. Warren, who has known Porter since she was a student in her consumer law class at Harvard Law School, praised Porter’s commitment to making a difference in people’s lives.

“I’m really excited to endorse Katie Porter to be the next Senator from California,” Warren said in a video posted to Twitter. “She’s smart and she has a backbone made out of steel.”

Porter, a progressive California Democrat, became the first candidate to throw her hat in the ring for the seat currently held by 89-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who has said she will announce a decision on whether she will pursue another term “at the appropriate time.”

Since then, Porter has taken on Wall Street and giant corporations that cheat families. Warren said that even as a young student in her consumer law class, Porter showed a deep-down commitment to making a difference in people’s lives.

Porter has a long history of public service, including working as a consumer protection attorney, a law professor, and a member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018.
