A Georgia grand jury has completed its investigation into whether former President Donald Trump and his allies attempted to unlawfully alter the outcome of the 2020 election in the state, according to a ruling issued Monday by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney.

The grand jury was convened to investigate any potential crimes related to attempts to disrupt the lawful administration of the 2020 elections in Georgia. Its work began shortly after Trump’s phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on January 2, 2021, in which he urged Raffensperger to “find” votes to overturn the election results.

Fani Willis, who had only been in office as Fulton County district attorney for a day at the time of the call, was quick to take action. Her office sent letters to Georgia officials in early February asking them to preserve documents related to attempts to influence the state’s 2020 election.

Willis had campaigned on the premise of restoring integrity to the Fulton County district attorney’s office and was elected after ousting six-term incumbent Paul Howard. She inherited a stack of backlogged cases from her predecessor and has been working to address them since taking office.

The grand jury’s report has not yet been released, so it is unclear what, if any, criminal charges may be brought against Trump or his allies. However, the completion of the grand jury’s investigation marks an important milestone in the ongoing effort to ensure the integrity of the 2020 election in Georgia.
