Southwest Airlines has been making strides in processing refunds for customers who were affected by the thousands of canceled flights last week. However, the airline experienced another setback on Tuesday when a third-party vendor, IBM, experienced a brief outage in their service that provides weather data prior to Southwest dispatching flights. This caused minor delays for the rest of the evening.

In an effort to make amends, Southwest Airlines has offered 25,000 frequent flyer bonus points to some passengers affected by the Christmas travel chaos. The airline stated that these points are worth approximately $300 and are in addition to reimbursements and refunds.

The airline has resumed normal operations following the holiday travel chaos, but the misplaced baggage fiasco could take days longer to resolve. Southwest Airlines has not yet provided an estimate of when all the lost bags will be returned to their owners.

Southwest Airlines has apologized for the inconvenience and has encouraged customers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. The airline is also offering customers the option to change their flight plans without incurring a fee.
