On Tuesday, Bryan Kohberger, the suspect in the November slayings of four University of Idaho students, arrived at the Monroe County Courthouse in a prison transport van to face an extradition hearing. Kohberger, 28, was escorted to the back of the courthouse by armed law enforcement and was wearing a prison jumpsuit and cuffs.

Kohberger is expected to be extradited to Idaho, where he will face four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of the four students. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Kohberger’s state-appointed attorney, Jason LaBar, said the hearing was a “formality proceeding” and that his client plans to waive extradition from his home state to Idaho. LaBar also said that Kohberger’s family is “obviously shocked” at the first-degree murder charges he faces.

The extradition hearing is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. After the hearing, Kohberger will be transferred to Idaho, where he will face the murder charges. The investigation into the slayings is ongoing.
