Supreme Court Cases: The ADF’s Role in Legal Attacks on Reproductive Rights and the LGBTQ Community

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is a conservative Christian legal organization that has been at the forefront of many legal battles related to reproductive rights and the LGBTQ community. Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana Elected 56th Speaker of the House in Party-Line Vote

Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana was elected as the 56th speaker of the House in a party-line vote, with all 220 Republicans voting for him. Johnson is a close ally of former President Donald Trump and had led many of the 2020 election challenges, including an amicus brief signed by more than 100 House Republicans. Johnson is the most ideologically conservative speaker since Newt Gingrich in the 1990s and is now second in line to the presidency.

Supreme Court Temporarily Blocks Lower Court Ruling Limiting Biden Administration’s Ability to Communicate with Social Media Companies

The court has agreed to take up the government's appeal, allowing the government to continue to communicate with social media companies and setting the stage for a major ruling on free speech and social media. The ruling is seen as a victory for free speech advocates, who argue that the government should not be able to limit the speech of citizens.

Donald Trump has called for an expansion of his travel ban on immigrants from Muslim-majority countries, as well as instituting a “strong ideological screening” for all immigrants. The White House has responded to Trump’s call with criticism, noting that it is “revolting and dangerous” and undermines American values. The Supreme Court upheld the ban in 2018, but the Biden administration has been increasingly willing to engage with Trump in recent weeks.
