Ke Huy Quan won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor on Sunday night, becoming the second actor of Asian descent to ever win in his category. He beat out a competitive field of nominees and earned widespread acclaim for his performance in "Everything Everywhere All at Once". His win was especially meaningful as his 84-year-old mother was watching from home, and Quan looked back on his experience as a Vietnamese refugee in his acceptance speech. His win follows the first Asian actor to win in the category, Haing Ngor, a Chinese Cambodian refugee, who won for his role in the 1984 drama “The Killing Fields.”
