Las Vegas Police Raid Home in Connection with Unsolved Tupac Shakur Murder Case

On July 17, 2023, Las Vegas police raided a home in connection with the unsolved murder of Tupac Shakur. Body camera videos obtained by The Associated Press show a couple being detained by SWAT officers as they shouted commands. The warrant was for items related to the murder from Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a witness to the crime. The investigation into the rapper's death is ongoing.

Singer-songwriter Sixto Rodriguez, referred to as "the greatest protest singer and songwriter that most people never heard of" in a 2013 Associated Press story, died Tuesday in Detroit. His albums flopped in the US in the 1970s, but he became a star in South Africa, inspiring white liberals horrified by the apartheid regime. His legacy would take off back home after the Oscar-winning documentary "Searching for Sugar Man" followed two South African fans who set out to discover what happened to their musical hero.

Six Former Law Enforcement Officers Plead Guilty to Federal Civil Rights Charges in Connection with Violent Assault on Two Black Men

Six former law enforcement officers in Mississippi have pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges in connection with a violent assault on two Black men. The officers, who called themselves the “Goon Squad”, entered the men’s home without a warrant and used a stun gun, handcuffed them, and assaulted them with a sex object before one of the officers fired a gun in one of the men’s mouths, causing serious injuries. The Associated Press conducted an investigation which revealed that the officers had discussed a false cover story and had planted and tampered with evidence. The six officers have pleaded guilty, but the victims have yet to receive justice.

Judge Chutkan Assigned to Oversee New Case Against Former President Donald Trump: Will She Take a Tough Stance?

U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan, nominated to the judiciary by former President Barack Obama, has been assigned to oversee the case against former President Donald Trump. She is known for handing out some of the most aggressive sentences to rioters involved in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and has expressed a desire to "get out of town" in response to the assignment. Judge Chutkan's past record suggests that she will not be lenient in her ruling for the case against Trump.

Florida A&M University Suspends Football-Related Activities After Unauthorized Rap Music Video Filmed in Locker Room

Florida A&M University has suspended all football-related activities after a rap music video featuring some of the team's players was filmed without permission in a football locker room. Head Football Coach Willie R. Simmons has stated that the video contained language not consistent with the university's values and has barred players from the team's facilities until the incident is sorted out. The university is currently investigating the incident and has yet to announce any disciplinary action against the players involved.

At Least Four People Killed in Mass Shooting in Hampton, Georgia

Four people have been killed in a mass shooting in the small community of Hampton, Georgia, located 40 miles south of Atlanta. The Hampton Police Department is leading the investigation with the help of Henry County police and sheriff's office, and the suspect is still at large. The incident occurred late Saturday morning in the Dogwood Lakes area, and the public is urged to contact the Hampton Police Department with any information.

Suspect Arrested in Long Island’s Gilgo Beach Murders: Rex Heuermann to Appear in Court Today

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the long-unsolved Gilgo Beach murders on Long Island. Rex Heuermann, 59, was taken into custody in Massapequa late Thursday and is expected to appear in court today. Authorities are scheduled to hold a press conference at 4 p.m. ET to provide more information about the case and the charges Heuermann may face.
