An Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus has led to 43 confirmed deaths in Congo and Uganda, with over 1,100 suspected cases under investigation. Brazil is monitoring two possible cases but assesses the risk of spread as very low.
At least 25 people were killed and eight critically injured in a suspected rebel attack on a secondary school near the Congo border. The victims suffered fatal burns, gunshot wounds, and machete injuries, and six were abducted by the rebels. The Ugandan government has condemned the attack and deployed additional security forces to the area.
