Seventeen Americans evacuated from a hantavirus-affected cruise ship have arrived in Nebraska for monitoring, with two passengers showing signs of infection. The rare Andes strain involved is transmissible between humans, but officials stress the public risk remains low.

South Carolina mother Jamie Bradley Brun has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder after allegedly killing her 6-year-old daughter and attempting to kill her 8-year-old daughter. The 16-year-old daughter of Brun was able to save her 8-year-old sister from the attempted drowning. Brun is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center and her 8-year-old daughter is being treated for her injuries.
