Tamia Potter made history as the first African American female to be accepted into Vanderbilt University Medical Center's neurosurgery residency program on National Match Day. Oakland: 8 Shot, 1 Fatally, in Mass Shooting Near Mills College

On Monday evening, eight people were shot at a gas station in Oakland, California, with one of them fatally. Police were alerted to the scene by a ShotSpotter activation, and multiple hospitals then began alerting police they had received multiple patients suffering gunshot wounds. The seven injured people were in stable condition, and the identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released. This is the third mass shooting in California in as many days, and no suspects have been identified.
