Shakira appeared in court in Barcelona on Monday to face charges of tax fraud. After eight minutes, the trial was called off after she agreed to a deal with Spanish authorities, which included a three-year suspended sentence and a fine of 7 million euros. This was in response to six counts of failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014.

Shakira's lawyer has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that all taxes due in Spain have been paid and that she has always complied with her fiscal obligations. This is not the first time Shakira has been accused of tax evasion.
Taylor Swift was the biggest winner of the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home the top prize for her "Anti-Hero" music video as well as five other awards.
