Shakira appeared in court in Barcelona on Monday to face charges of tax fraud. After eight minutes, the trial was called off after she agreed to a deal with Spanish authorities, which included a three-year suspended sentence and a fine of 7 million euros. This was in response to six counts of failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
Police conducted a wellness check on Britney Spears after fans expressed concern over a video she posted on Instagram of herself dancing with knives. Spears later clarified that the knives were not real and that she was simply copying Shakira's MTV Video Music Awards performance. Fans should not be worried as these types of videos are a staple on Spears' Instagram feed.
Spanish prosecutors have charged pop star Shakira with failing to pay $7.1 million in taxes on her 2018 income, and she is due to be tried in Barcelona on Nov. 20 in a separate case for allegedly failing to pay $15.4 million in taxes. Shakira's lawyer has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that all taxes due in Spain have been paid and that she has always complied with her fiscal obligations. This is not the first time Shakira has been accused of tax evasion.
Taylor Swift was the biggest winner of the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home the top prize for her "Anti-Hero" music video as well as five other awards. Other winners included Karol G and Shakira for best collaboration, Nicki Minaj for best hip-hop, and SZA for best R&B. Taylor Swift also gave a special performance of her song "Midnights" and NSYNC reunited to present her with the best pop video award.
