Attorneys Richard "Dick" Harpootlian and Jim Griffin have filed a motion claiming that Rebecca Hill, the Colleton County Clerk of Court, tampered with the jury during the trial of convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh, violating his constitutional right to a fair trial. The motion alleges that Hill's actions were done to gain financial gain for herself, and if successful, could set a precedent for future cases involving jury tampering. The motion is currently being reviewed by the court and a decision is expected soon.
