FDA Advisory Committee Gives Vote of Confidence for Full Approval of Pfizer’s COVID-19 Pill, Paxlovid

The FDA's independent advisory committee has voted in favor of full approval of Pfizer's COVID-19 pill, Paxlovid, for the treatment of mild to moderate Covid-19 in adults at high risk for severe disease. The drug, a combination of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, has been available under emergency use authorization since December 2021 and has been used by over 8 million people in the US. The FDA is expected to make a decision on full approval of the drug in the coming weeks.

US FDA Moves Closer to Approving First Nation’s RSV Vaccine for Adults Over 60

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is close to approving the first nation's RSV vaccine, developed by Pfizer, which has been shown to reduce the risk of illness from RSV by as much as 86%. The Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 7-4 in favor of the vaccine, despite some safety concerns. If approved, the vaccine would be the first of its kind in the US and provide a much-needed protection against RSV for older adults.
