Post-tropical cyclone Lee is expected to make landfall in Nova Scotia, Canada Saturday afternoon, bringing tropical storm conditions and coastal flooding to Maine's coast. Over 100 U.S. citizens have been evacuated from Sudan amid the chaos caused by two warring generals. Mayor Johnson Declares State of Emergency and Issues Shelter-in-Place Order in Response to Large Fire at Brunswick Plastics Plant

Mayor Cosby Johnson declared a local state of emergency and issued a shelter-in-place order for the entire city of Brunswick, Georgia, after a large fire erupted at a plastics plant in the city on Saturday. The Glynn County Board of Commissioners also ordered people within a half-mile of the plant to evacuate, and the Brunswick Fire Department and the Glynn County Fire Department are working together to contain the fire. Local businesses and the Red Cross are providing assistance to those affected by the fire.

Maine Mineral & Gem Museum Offers $25,000 Reward for Meteorite Fragments from Fireball Seen in New Brunswick, Canada

On Saturday, a fireball was seen cutting across the sky in New Brunswick, Canada, in broad daylight. NASA's Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) Lab was able to calculate the "strewn field" where fragments of the meteor might be found near Calais, Maine. In response, the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum has announced a $25,000 reward for a kilogram of the meteorite and is asking anyone who witnessed the fireball to remember its path and contact them if they find any fragments.

Rutgers University Faculty and Staff to Strike on Monday in Historic Move for Higher Education

Rutgers faculty and staff unions representing 9,000 members are set to strike on Monday, making it the first educator strike in the university's history. The strike will impact full-time and part-time union employees, and is in response to demands for salary increases, improved job security for adjunct faculty, and guaranteed funding for graduate students. The unions are willing to continue negotiations in order to reach a fair agreement, but the strike is set to begin Monday morning.
