The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) has threatened legal action against Twitter for its failure to take down hate speech since Elon Musk took over as CEO. Ethan Melzer, a former US Army soldier, was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Friday for his role in a plot to attack a US military base in Turkey and kill his fellow service members. He had provided sensitive details to a neo-Nazi, pro-jihadist group known as the Order of the Nine Angles (O9A) in connection with its plot to spark a jihadist terror attack. His motivation was to cause a mass casualty event and further the goals of white supremacy and the downfall of Western civilization. The sentence is the maximum penalty for his crimes.
Anderson Lee Aldrich is on trial in Colorado Springs to determine if hate crime charges should be brought against him in response to a mass shooting at a gay nightclub last November. Detective Rebecca Joines testified that Aldrich had run a neo-Nazi website, used racial slurs, posted an image of a rifle scope trained on a gay pride parade, and used a homophobic slur. The prosecution is expected to call several witnesses to testify, and if Aldrich is found guilty, he could face up to life in prison.
