After more than a decade of searching, a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the unsolved murders of at least 10 women whose bodies were found on Long Island's Gilgo Beach. The suspect is from Massapequa, and there is a large police presence in Massapequa Park. Eleven sets of remains have been found in the area, but it is unclear if the suspect is connected to all of them.

Amanda Burke, a nurse from Long Island, has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after a video surfaced of her allegedly picking up a two-day-old baby and slamming him face-down into his bassinet. On Sunday afternoon, a sightseeing plane crash-landed in Long Island, New York, leaving one person dead and two others critically injured. The pilot had reported smoke in the cockpit to air traffic controllers before the crash, and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause. A piece of wreckage from the SS Savannah, the first vessel to cross the Atlantic Ocean partly under steam power, was discovered on a New York shoreline after Tropical Storm Ian last fall. The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society and National Park Service are now working together to identify the wreckage and put it on public display. If the wreckage is confirmed to be from the SS Savannah, it would be a significant find for historians and researchers.
