Long Beach Unified School District Reaches $13 Million Settlement Agreement in Civil Case Related to Death of Manuela “Mona” Rodriguez

The Long Beach Unified School District has reached a $13 million settlement agreement with the family of Manuela “Mona” Rodriguez, who was fatally shot by a Millikan High School safety officer in September 2021. Omar Rodriguez, Manuela's brother, said that this is step one of accountability. The school safety officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, and the family's attorneys are continuing to seek justice for Manuela and her son.

LASD Investigates Shooting Death of Bishop David O’Connell as Homicide

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting death of Bishop David O'Connell, a longtime Catholic priest, as a homicide. O'Connell, 69, was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene in Los Angeles on Saturday. The religious community has been stunned by the death of O'Connell, who was hailed as a "peacemaker", and detectives are currently investigating the death. The Sheriff's Department is asking anyone with information to contact the Homicide Bureau or leave an anonymous tip.

Kinder Morgan Resumes Operations After Fuel Pipeline Leak in California

Kinder Morgan, a Houston-based pipeline operator, has resumed operations at its California facility after a leak was discovered on Thursday. The source of the leak was isolated and no injuries or fire were reported. The company is working with local, state and federal agencies to investigate the cause of the leak and is also working with customers to ensure fuel supply needs are met.

Governor Lombardo Declares State of Emergency in Response to Kinder Morgan Pipeline Leak in California

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in response to a leak detected in a California gas pipeline supplying fuel to southern Nevada. The emergency declaration will enable the state to receive federal resources and waivers to find alternative fuel sources and lift restrictions on trucking and other delivery methods. Kinder Morgan Energy Partners is working to repair the pipeline and is in regular communication with Clark County.
