Israel and Lebanon signed a US-brokered framework agreement in Washington aimed at restoring Lebanese state authority and disarming non-state armed groups. Hezbollah was not part of the deal, and Israeli leaders say troops will remain in southern Lebanon until the group disarms.
Hezbollah rejected a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal between Israel and Lebanon, saying any truce must begin with an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Israel said it would continue military operations as strikes and shelling were reported across the south.
