A judge ruled that a gun and notebook can be used as evidence in Luigi Mangione's state murder trial for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, while suppressing other items found in his backpack. The trial has been postponed to September.

Maine Republican Party leaders Michael McDonald and Jim DeGraffenreid have been indicted on state charges related to the 2020 presidential election, raising questions about the fairness of the upcoming Nevada caucuses and the integrity of the Maine Republican Party's election process. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's campaign has been affected by the indictments, as his appeal of the Maine Secretary of State's decision to not certify his signatures was denied by a Maine Superior Court judge.
McDonald's is experiencing success, with same-store sales up 8.1% and revenue of $6.69 billion reported for the third quarter. The company is looking to capitalize on this success by opening 10,000 new stores worldwide and adding 100 million members to its loyalty program by 2027. McDonald's is also investing in technology, offering more value meals and discounts, and introducing an improved version of its burger to keep customers coming back.
The U.S. Department of Labor has found that more than 300 children, including two 10-year-olds, were working in violation of federal labor laws at 62 McDonald's restaurants across four states. The 10-year-olds were found to be working until as late as 2 a.m. and performing prohibited tasks such as operating a deep fryer. The Department of Labor is currently investigating the violations and has not yet announced any penalties.
Councilman Russell Heller was tragically shot in the parking lot of the PSE&G energy company facility in Somerset County, New Jersey. The suspect, Gary T. Curtis, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the investigation revealed that the shooting was not politically connected. This is the second time in a week that a New Jersey council member was found shot to death in a car and the Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident.
