House Democrats Call for Investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for Failing to Report Lavish Gifts and Benefits

House Democrats, led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have called for an investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for failing to disclose gifts and benefits from wealthy, politically active executives. The letter cites criticism from other members of Congress and calls for an investigation into Thomas’s actions, suggesting that if the court won’t reform itself, Congress should step in. The controversy has sparked a debate about ethics reform on the Supreme Court, and it remains to be seen whether the Attorney General will launch an investigation.

House Judiciary Committee Divided Over Proposed Amendment Requiring Pledge of Allegiance at Meetings

Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) that would require the committee to begin each meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) argued against the amendment, fearing it could be used to make a "mockery" of the Pledge. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) argued there was no need to pledge allegiance twice in the same day. The amendment was eventually withdrawn, highlighting the deep divisions in the House over the issue of patriotism and the Pledge of Allegiance.
