Four Deaths and Vision Loss Linked to Contaminated Eyedrops, CDC Reports

The CDC has reported 81 cases of highly drug-resistant bacterial infections linked to contaminated eyedrops, including four deaths and additional cases of vision loss. The CDC has recalled three products and is urging people to stop using any eyedrops from EzriCare or Delsam Pharma and to contact their healthcare provider if they have any symptoms of an eye infection. The agency is also working with the FDA to investigate the cause of the contamination and to identify any other products that may be affected.

CDC Warns of Drug-Resistant Infections Linked to Over-the-Counter Eye Drops, Global Pharma Healthcare Issues Recall

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning people to stop using the over-the-counter eye drops, EzriCare Artificial Tears, due to an outbreak of drug-resistant infections of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The CDC has received reports of 55 infections in 12 states, including one fatality, and Global Pharma Healthcare is issuing a recall of the product. The FDA is continuing to investigate the source of the contamination and the CDC is urging people to seek medical attention if they have used the product and are experiencing any symptoms.
