Nassau County Republicans Select Mazi Melesa Pilip as Nominee for Special Election to Replace Ousted GOP Rep. George Santos

Nassau County Republicans have selected Mazi Melesa Pilip, an Ethiopian immigrant and former paratrooper in the Israel Defense Forces, as their nominee for the upcoming special election to replace ousted GOP Rep. George Santos. Pilip will face former U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.), the Democratic nominee, in the Feb. 13 special election. Pilip has been endorsed by the Nassau County Republican Party and is seen as a competitive candidate in the race for the vacant seat in the House of Representatives.

Contractor With Top-Secret Security Clearance Arrested on Espionage Charges

Abraham Teklu Lemma, a naturalized U.S. citizen with a top-secret security clearance, has been arrested on espionage charges for allegedly providing a foreign country with classified information. He is believed to have been working for and accessing sensitive U.S. government records at the bidding of Ethiopia since at least last summer. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Saudi Arabia Accused of Killing Hundreds of Unarmed Migrants at Border with Yemen

Saudi border guards have been accused of killing hundreds of unarmed migrants attempting to cross into the kingdom from Yemen, according to a report released by Human Rights Watch. Eyewitness accounts and images of dead bodies suggest the death toll could be in the thousands. Human Rights Watch is calling on Saudi Arabia to investigate the allegations and ensure that its border guards respect the rights of migrants and refugees.
