Missouri Judge Issues Temporary Restraining Order Blocking Rule Restricting Access to Gender-Affirming Treatments

A Missouri judge has issued a temporary restraining order blocking a rule that would have required adults and children to undergo more than a year of therapy before receiving gender-affirming treatments. The rule was challenged by the ACLU and the Transgender Law Center on behalf of two transgender Missourians and the St. Louis Effort for AIDS, who argued that it violated the Missouri Constitution. The case will now move forward in the courts, with a final ruling expected in the coming weeks.

Judge Temporarily Blocks Rule Restricting Access to Gender-Affirming Health Care for Transgender Missourians

Missouri Judge Ellen Ribaudo has temporarily blocked a rule restricting access to gender-affirming health care for transgender kids and adults, just hours before it was set to take effect. Transgender Missourians and health care providers had sued to stop it, arguing that the Attorney General had acted beyond his authority. The ruling is a victory for transgender rights advocates, but the legal battle is likely to continue.
